International and European cooperation plays an important role in the strategic development of Ege University. International mobility of students and staff constitutes as essential part of Ege University’s strategic priorities.

In accordance with its mission of becoming an international university, Ege University has entered into 73 academic cooperation protocols with many foreign institutions all over the world to promote the enrichment of teaching and research programs. Such protocols reaffirm the enormous importance of international education and of maintaining a global perspective. Activities such as joint scientific research, teaching staff and student exchange, mutual information and publication exchange, organization of joint scientific meetings and training programs, lecturing and other educational activities are carried out under these cooperation protocols.

Ege University is an active member of European Union Association (EUA).

In December 2002, European Commission signed a series of agreements with the Turkish authorities to finance a cycle of preparatory measures and pilot actions to prepare Turkey’s participation in Socrates Program. Ege University had been selected as a pilot university and was among one of the 15 Turkish universities for the preparatory measures and pilot actions of Socrates Program by the Turkish National Agency. Turkey’s first Erasmus students were sent to Portugal-Porto University by Ege University.

Ege University upholds its commitment to coordinate and implement European Union’s “Life Long Learning (LLP) “ and “ Youth “ Programs. Ege University has been awarded Erasmus University Charter and takes part in Life Long Learning –LLP and Youth Programs between 2007-2013.

Ege University has been awarded the prestigious European Commission’s ECTS Label. The ECTS Label is a certificate issued by the European Commission in recognition of a particular higher education institution. It indicates the university’s quality and states that the ECTS is used correctly in all disciplines at both bachelor and master level and that student mobility under the Erasmus programme is administered properly. The ECTS Label Certificate is the most prestigious European award in tertiary education. It attests that the strategic objectives of the university in the European higher education area are fulfilled. Using a credit rating according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) allows transparent recognition of academic achievements completed at universities other than the students’ home university and thus it directly supports student mobility within as well as outside Europe. The certificate attests that a particular university meets the strict criteria of the European Union concerning higher education and contributes significantly to the expansion of student mobility and in this way also to the internationalization of the university. The certificates be issued to representatives of the universities on 8th May 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark on the 25th anniversary of the Erasmus programme.

Diploma Supplement Label has been awarded to Ege University by the European Commission on April 2005 and 2009. At Ege University the Diploma Supplement follows the model developed by the European Commision, Council of Europe and UNESCO / CEPES is being issued in English, given automatically and free of charge to every students upon successfully completion of their studies in all first cycle, second cycle, and one-tier degree programs. The Diploma Supplement is only valid together with the actual diploma.

Erasmus Program gives the students the opportunity to study at a European partner university for one or two terms, as well as the possibility of an internship at a European institution or organization. The mobility of students is the University’s most intensive European activity. Studying and working abroad are considered a valuable opportunity to strengthen the European perspective in student’s professional development.

Ege University is one of Turkish universities which perform the highest number of exchange students and staff through the Erasmus Program. It has developed 475 bilateral agreements with 340 European universities in 24 European Union member states within the scope of Erasmus Program for 2013-2014 academic year.

Ege University aims to enhance reciprocity in exchange. One of the primary interests of the University is to increase the number of incoming students by increasing the number of curricula taught in a foreign language, organizing courses in Turkish language, developing the international tutoring system, and providing more information material and offering individual counselling. Mobility of teaching staff is supported through personal counselling, linguistic and cultural preparation. Ege University also welcomes visiting teaching staff and the contribution they make to its teaching program and curriculum development.
Ege University participates in LLP not only in mobility activities but also in intensive programs, multilateral and thematic network projects.

Ege University confirms full academic recognition for mobility activities- the study period abroad replaces a comparable period of study at Ege University with all forms of assessment for each outgoing students.

Ege University places great importance on placement activity to familiarize the students with the practice of profession, application of knowledge and skills in working life. Ege University has a tradition of good cooperation with professional organizations and enterprises abroad and at home. It strives for increasing the number of students participating in placement activity to enhance their employability after graduation.

International Office is responsible for the coordination of the mobility process within the scope of Erasmus Program. It takes care of all of the administrative and registration procedures regarding the preparation and support for the incoming and outgoing students and teaching staff. It offers orientation programs prior to the beginning of academic programs. The full integration and participation of incoming students is ensured in all social, cultural and sports activities of the university in addition to activities specially organized for them.

Double Degree Programs

Ege University puts a lot of emphasis on the development of joint curricula and double degree programs.

Ege University and Berlin School of Economics (Germany) at Bachelor level carries out a dual diploma program.

Ege University and FH Giessen-Friedberg (Germany) at Master's level carries out a dual diploma program.

Ege University and Cartegena Technical University (Spain) at Master's level carries out a dual diploma program.
