The medium of teaching is Turkish at Ege University except in some selected faculties and departments. In the Department of Chemical Engineering, all courses are taught in English. In the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences two-thirds of the curricula is offered in English. In other faculties and departments, curricula have English and German courses.

All students who wish to carry out their undergraduate or graduate studies in the Departments at which the courses taught totally or partially in English have to certify their proficiency in English or German (for specific departments) languages.

An English and German exam is administered by the School of Foreign Languages prior to the commencement of the academic year. Students who are proficient in the examination or provide evidence that they have acceptable language qualifications can enroll in their undergraduate and graduate programs directly.

English language exams recognized by Ege University applicable in admission to the undergraduate and graduate programs are TOEFL, IELTS and etc.

Students who are not proficient in the foreign language (English and German) are required to attend a one-year Preparatory Program offered by the School of Foreign Languages.

The School of Foreign Languages offers students guidance and practice in all four of the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Also, the School of Foreign Languages offers Italian, German, Business English and Translation courses.

Turkish Language courses are organized by the Institute for Turkish World Studies-Turkish Teaching Center for foreigners. The objectives of the Turkish courses are to help students to gain a strong Turkish Grammar, writing and speaking ability at first level. In the second level to understand and comprehend Turkish Language and Turkish culture. The Center also provides Chinese, Russian and Greek language courses.

Ege University, Institute for Turkish Studies -Turkish Teaching Centre organized EILC (Erasmus Intensive Language Course) courses in 2004-2005 academic years as one of the five universities in Turkey. The EILCs, a scheme supported by the European Commission, are specialized courses in the less widely used and less taught European Union languages.

“Ege University Continuing Education Center” (EGESEM), aims to develop the cooperation of the university with public institutions, private sector and international institutions via offering continuing education programmes in the fields on and carrying such services to the international arena. The center mainly organize activities for the society in the fields that have gained importance on the improvement of individuals with a view of career building, improving professional knowledge and skills, achieving new skills and supplying individual development needs. The Center is a member of EUCEN (The European Association for University Lifelong Learning). It is also a Eurodesk Local Contact Point in Izmir city.

In addition to these programs, the society is provided with education services by means of CISCO Academy on computer network specialty, which is lack of personnel both nationally and internationally; and this training is documented by internationally accepted certificates. Besides, the University organizes courses to teach standard computer knowledge in order to spread computer literacy in every part of the society.
